Distribution of Anti-OEP, protease and elastase HA titers of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract
Recently the necessity of investigation concerning serological reaction of Pseudomonas has been greatly emphasized in conjunction with immunity, vaccination, epidemiology in addition to serological diagnosis and therapy for Pseudomonas. infection which showed a rapid increase.
In the present work, we report the . evaluation of normal limit of antibody against P. aeruginosa.
Seven hundred and twelve sera of healthy persons and 27 sera of urological. clinic were titrated for passive hemagglutination test (PHA) using protease, elastase, and common antigen (OEP; original endotoxin protein) of P. aeruginosa as antigens.
PHA titer of 1/64 against the common antigen(OEP), 1/32 against protease and 1/16 or less against elastase of P. aeruginosa were detected in 87.999.4% of healthy human sera. Distribution of PHA titer on each age group showed. that low titers of 1/8 against protease and OEP were found in a considerableproportion of neonatal and infancy group, however, higher titer was found in aldolescence than that of adult and old age group.
Twenty-seven sera of clinical cases of urology were titrated for PHA of protease, elastase and OEP from P. aeruginosa by microtitration method. AntiOEP-PHA titers, which the patient¢¥s sera were isolated P. aeruginosa from. urine or pus were as follows; six from 1/64 to 1/1, 024, but one was 1/32. Antiprotease PHA titers were from 1/16 to 1/128. Anti-elastase PHA titers were very low compared with those of PHA of protease and OEP, ie under 1/8 to 1/64 in titer. A great variation in high PHA titer was found in the remaining 20 cases which P. aeruginosa were unable to isolate from the patients.
